Below are a couple of pictures from the record flooding of the Red River currently happening in the Fargo-Moorhead area. These were taken in the backyard of my parents’ home (which is on the Red) in South Fargo on Friday, shortly before we were evacuated. Thousands of volunteers took part in fighting the flood over the past week. The colleges in the area canceled classes so the students could help, and the turnout of volunteer college students was amazing. Many of them sandbagged all day and filled sandbags all hours of the night. Their help was invaluable. Each generation of college students seem to get a bit of a bad rap, but I saw nothing but generosity and dedication from this group of students. Being born and raised in Fargo, I am very proud of the entire community for pulling together and everyone pitching in however they could to try to save their city.
